Wilson Creek Hike-and-Bike Trail Adds to McKinney's Unique Nature

Finding a place to hike-and-bike in the North Texas area is extremely limited. We all know Dallas outdoor enthusiasts enjoy making their weekend trips to Katy Trail. But, for those not wanting to make the trek into Big D, the City of McKinney now has its own scenic hike-and-bike trail open for access!

The Wilson Creek Trail, near Bonnie Wenk Park, opened Thursday, September 20 in McKinney thanks to its Community Development Corporation funding of approximately $635,000.

"The trail recently opened, but I don't think most of the community knows about our hike and bike trail system," said Anna Clark, City of McKinney Communications and Media manager. "It's very friendly, it's not like road cycling. It's a little bit like Katy trail, but it's narrower and for recreational cycling and walking."

This 5.5 mile traffic-free hike-and-bike trail goes under Virginia Parkway and connects Towne Lake with Boyd High School.

If you're looking for a place to get some recreational exercising in this weekend, the great outdoors is waiting for you at the Wilson Creek Trail.

"This trail is for families and it's gorgeous and tucked away," said Clark. "If you have a dog, a stroller, if you're walking with a group, it's there."
