The McKinney Ice Hockey Club Varsity High School team will represent the city of McKinney at the USA Hockey National Tournament starting this Thursday, March 19th, in Chesterfield, Missouri. This is the first time that a team from McKinney has advanced to the High School National Tournament.

The team, which draws players from all three McKinney high schools, is based at the Dr Pepper StarCenter McKinney at Craig Ranch. The team going to Nationals has five seniors and consists of thirteen players from McKinney Boyd, three from McKinney North, two from McKinney High, and two from outside MISD who were assigned to the team by the high school league. The team earned a spot at the National Tournament after defeating Plano West in the State Championship Game in February in a thrilling 3 to 2 win.

The team will play Cherry Creek, CO, on Thursday at 9:00 a.m., Lincoln Way, IL, on Friday at 4:00 p.m., and Waterloo, IA, on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. The top two teams in the four team division will advance to the Quarterfinal Round on Sunday morning for a single elimination game. Games may be watched online live at fasthockey.com for a fee.

The team will be recognized by the McKinney City Council on Tuesday, March 17th, at 6:00 p.m. at the City Council Meeting.
