Easter has many traditions - egg hunts, family dinners and of course, attending church. This year, in addition to the tradition of Easter morning worship, you can add Sharing the Art at First United Methodist Church of McKinney.

Sharing the Art is sponsored by the Adult Discipleship Leadership Team (ADLT) of First UMC McKinney and offers a new perspective on the celebration of Easter. This year’s exhibit shares the creativity of Bible journaling that will feature the artistic talents of church members. Just as the mission of First UMC McKinney is “sharing the heart of Christ from the heart of McKinney,” the morning’s collection is aptly named Sharing the Art.

Bible Art Studio, a Bible art journaling ministry that meets at the church each month, is curating the morning’s activities. Sharing the Art will be an exploration of the transformative power of the Resurrection. You will be able to walk through the four stages of the group’s artistic process: inspiration, design, creation and reflection.

“We see this as the same cycle of change as the transformation of the Disciples themselves.” states Jennifer Spring, Bible Art Studio member and coordinator for Sharing the Art.

The displays will show the group’s use of Bible verses combined with drawings, paint, colored pencils and other media to deepen their relationship with Christ. The examples that will be shared allow us all to take a creative journey that God offers us through the meaning of Easter. Even if you don’t see yourself as an artist, you will be inspired to explore how your own creativity can be a way to express your faith.

“This is a different experience.” says Dr. John Harman, First UMC McKinney’s Associate Pastor of Discipleship. “Sharing the Art is an opportunity for spiritual engagement beyond Easter morning worship. It offers opportunities to celebrate the meaning of Easter in a new and active way.”

The morning will include a hands-on opportunity to contribute to a group project that will be later displayed at the church. Art will also be displayed that was created by church members of all ages. A complimentary breakfast is also being served.

Invitation cards are available to download or pickup from the church to share with your family and friends. As a bonus, the card's design is inspired by the event in the popular motif of the adult coloring book craze and can be enjoyed as part of your own expression of creativity. Those wishing to color the invitations can share on their social media platforms with the hashtags, #SharingTheArt and #FirstUMCMcKinney.

Sharing the Art will be held on Sunday, April 16 from 8:30 – 11:30 am at The Hub, the youth ministry center of First United Methodist Church of McKinney, located at 102 W. Lamar Street in historical Downtown McKinney. Easter Services will be held at First United Methodist Church of McKinney, 315 N. Church Street at the following times: Sunrise Service at 7:00 am; Traditional Worship in the Sanctuary at 8:00, 9:00, 10:05 and 11:10 am; and Wellspring Contemporary Worship in Dyer Hall at 9:00, 10:05 and 11:10 am.
