Dave Ramsey’s web site is not the first place I would go for Valentine’s day advice. Don’t get me wrong, I am his biggest fan.  But really people?  His article: 7 Ways to Ruin Your Valentine's Day Date is a mood killer. Read at your own peril.

However, try this one:  Valentine’s Money Wasters: Lose the Cost, Keep the Love

This one rocks, reading from the article . . .

Here are five Valentine’s Day traditions you can easily ditch (without any love lost):

1. Fixed Menus

2. Delivery Roses

3. Boxed Chocolates

4. Diamond Jewelry

5. Store-Bought Greeting Cards

I am guilty of them all.  But have fun.  Spend your money on the one you love.

But yes, I am an Estate Planning Attorney here in McKinney, Texas, and if you really want a devastatingly romantic evening, give him or her a fully funded trust fund.  Just sayin’

You will be forgiven for an evening lacking diamonds, chocolate, a card, or that dinner where you used that coupon you had been saving.

But, if you lack courage to brave the crowds going to see Fifty Shades, the McKinney Performing Arts Center (MPAC) will show classic romantic films in the restored theater of the historic Collin County Courthouse all weekend long. “Sleepless in Seattle” (a favorite of mine) on Friday, Feb. 13 at 8 p.m., or on Valentine’s Day attend a 2 p.m. matinee of “Casablanca” or “West Side Story” at 8 p.m. A cash bar will be offered at evening movies.
