Groundbreaking Ceremony in McKinney, Texas for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

MCKINNEY, TEXAS - Tod Richardson, President of eight McKinney area congregations of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, announced the construction of a new meeting house at the corner of Hardin Boulevard and Wilmeth Road.  A groundbreaking ceremony will take place October 21, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. at the site.  This will be the third LDS meeting house in McKinney.

Mayor Fuller, other key leadership of City of McKinney, as well as all local community and religious leaders have been invited to hear the history of the Mormon Church in McKinney and be a part of the groundbreaking, unifying event.

This area of North Texas is one of the fastest growing in the country, with its healthy economy, vibrant job market, family environment, excellent schools, and affordable housing.  Because of the growth, the Church realized the need for an additional meeting house to accommodate its growing numbers. There has been a great need for this building for some time and the Church is eager to get it built as it will already be close to capacity when it opens next year.

LDS congregations are organized geographically and members attend worship services near their homes.  Each member belongs to a stake, which is similar to a Catholic diocese. Each stake has several smaller congregations called wards. Running a stake and meeting the needs of its members requires a substantial amount of time and effort, which is carried out by the members themselves. Most are asked by local leaders to volunteer their time in specific capacities.

The McKinney Stake is part of the worldwide LDS church that has more than 29,000 congregations across the globe, with a majority of members living outside the U.S. The McKinney Texas Stake consists of eight congregations living in McKinney.  Also worth noting - all meeting houses are paid for before construction begins.

Hallmarks of the LDS faith are a respect for the diverse beliefs and unique contributions of all the world faiths, the joy of serving our neighbors, and following the example of Jesus Christ.

Members everywhere are encouraged to be self-reliant, give charitable and community service, care for the poor and needy, and enhance the quality of life in the community.
