The 2017 Crape Myrtle Run & Festival, featuring USATF certified 10K and 5K courses plus a 1 mile Fun Run, is set for Saturday September 23rd. The Start/Finish line for all walkers and runners is located on the north side parking lot at McKinney Boyd High School, 600 N Lake Forest Dr in McKinney. Races begin at 8:00am, 8:30am and 8:45am with check-in and pre-race entertainment at 7am.
The race is directed and timed by Racing Systems through Run-On! in McKinney. Metals and trophies will be awarded in multiple age divisions. In addition, local education reaps benefits when the Crape Myrtle Trails Board members return $5 of students' and parents' registration fees back to participating schools.
The festival aspect of the annual event includes activities in "Myrtle Village" both before and after the race. Entertainment in the area includes a petting zoo, face painter, bounce house, photo booth, inflatable obstacle course, music, warm-up exercises, and a great favorite the "Chicken Dance". In the long-established and highly anticipated tradition, students from the school with the greatest participation will get to see their coach and/or Principal Kiss a Pig ("Myrtle" is her name!)
For advance registration, go to www.crapemyrtletrails.org - Day of the race registration begins at 7am at the north end of the McKinney Boyd High School parking lot.
Dozens of community businesses are sponsors for the event, including the McKinney Community Development Corporation. Also, partnering with Historic Downtown McKinney and Oktoberfest, take your runners bib to redeem Free Oktoberfest tickets for food or drink.
