MCA Senior Serves on Congressional Youth Advisory Council

McKinney Christian Academy senior Andy Boese just recently graduated from U.S. Congressman Sam Johnson’s Congressional Youth Advisory Council.  There were hundreds of high school students that applied to serve, but only 81 were selected and completed the program.  The Advisory Council met four times throughout the school year to work on topics ranging from the Ebola crisis to the Keystone Pipeline debate.  The Council members were tasked with analyzing newspaper articles and dealing with current political issues.

The graduation was held Monday, May 4th on the SMU Plano campus.  Distinguished speakers at the graduation included State Attorney General Ken Paxton, former United States Representative Allen West, and United States Representative Sam Johnson.

Representative Johnson created the CYAC in  2004 to gain insights from students in his district and to inspire students to learn more about how the government functions on a local, state and federal level and in turn, to become better informed and actively engaged citizens.

Andy Boese is the first student from McKinney Christian Academy to be selected to serve on the Congressional Youth Advisory Council.
