McKinney Christian Academy is proud to announce that two students have been recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Program.  Seniors Dylan Doerner and Mark Voelkel both performed exceptionally and have received honors by the program.

Dylan Doerner is a National Merit Commended Student.  Commended students are recognized for their exceptional academic promise demonstrated by their outstanding performance on their junior year PSAT/NMSQT test. These high performing students scored within the top 3.5% of students nationwide, achieving a Selection Index Score of 212 or higher. National Merit Semifinalists are selected based upon a qualifying PSAT/NMSQT score designated for each state. Although he did not reach the semi-finalist level as the Texas cut score is higher than many states, his score would qualify him as a National Merit Semifinalist in 16 other states, including our neighboring states: Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, and Oklahoma. Dylan is the 16th MCA student in the past ten years to achieve National Merit Commended recognition or higher.  Dylan is the son of Dr. Mark Doerner.

Mark Voelker has been recognized as a Scholar in the National Hispanic Recognition Program.  Students are invited to apply for the National Hispanic Recognition program if they score in the top 2.5% of Hispanic/Latino PSAT/NMSQT test-takers in their region. Texas falls within the Southwest region also including Arkansas, New Mexico, and Oklahoma. To receive the recognition, these students must be at least one-quarter Hispanic or Latino descent, have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher and be juniors at the time of the test. Mark is the second in MCA history to receive this level of recognition.  Mark is the son of William and Kristina Voelkel.

"Those being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success," commented a spokesperson for NMSC. "These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the enhancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success."

McKinney Christian Academy strives to prepare our students for the challenges they will face after graduation. We provide a very rigorous college-preparatory education while teaching our students to be life-long followers of Christ" stated Kate Perry, MCA Academic Counselor.
