City Plans Texas Trash-Off Event To Keep McKinney Beautiful

The City of McKinney will host the sixth annual Texas Trash-Off event on April 5 as part of the Don't Mess with Texas Trash-Off, the largest single day cleanup event in the state.

Residents are invited to pick up litter along roadways and creeks within the city. Civic groups, schools, businesses, homeowner associations, faith-based organizations and individuals are encouraged to take part in this community event. Students can earn community service hours, and Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts can earn patches.

Registration is now open on the site. Teams should register by April 3 to guarantee shirts for all team members.  Please have a list of names and shirt sizes for members to enter during the online registration process.

Team check-in will be from 8–9 a.m. in the parking lot of Bonnie Wenk Park, 2996 Virginia Pkwy, near the amphitheater. Shirts, trash bags, gloves, and a detailed map of a specific area to clean will be provided to participating teams. After collecting trash from 9–11 a.m., teams will gather at Bonnie Wenk Park for a celebratory picnic lunch sponsored by Progressive Waste Solutions. Participants are asked to bring a blanket for the picnic.

The Texas Trash-Off events are a partnership with the Keep Texas Beautiful program and the Texas Department of Transportation. For more information, visit the site or call the City of McKinney Environmental Education office at 972-547-7335.
