McKinney Boyd Bailadoras Dominate Dance Competition

The McKinney Boyd High School Bailadoras and JV team Belles competed last weekend at the Showtime International Texas Championships at DeSoto High School.  Once again, the ladies dominated the competition.

The Bailadoras received the Best in Category for their jazz, novelty, pom and hip hop routines. In addition, they received the Sweepstakes and Judges Award, as well as the highest award that can be earned, Grand Champion.

This was the first competition ever for the JV Belles, and they also dominated in their category.  The Belles received the Best in Category Award for their prop, pom, and lyrical routines. They too earned a Judges Award, Sweepstakes Award and the highest award achievable, Grand Champion.

Bailadoras Officers received Best in Category for their jazz, lyrical, and contemporary routines. They also received the Judges Award, Sweepstakes Award, Champion Circle Award and an Applause Award for technique on all routines.

The Bailadoras Elite team received Best in Category awards for their jazz, kick and contemporary routines. They also received the Judges Award and Sweepstakes Award, as well as the Grand Champion Award.

Competing in the Duet Champion division, Arianna Aghassi and Sydney Kennedy came away champions, with teammates Amanda Merkle and Jordan Benanti finishing in the runner up position.   

Bailadoras soloists also saw success in their respective age divisions. Freshman Lauren Casey was presented with 1st place in the Jr. Solo Champion division in her first ever Showtime International dance competition with the Bailadoras. Additionally, in the High School Solo Champion division, the 1st place Champion was Emily Norris, with teammates Jane Rha placing 2nd and Jacqueline Parson 4th out of 38 dancers competing in this category.

The McKinney Boyd High School Bailadoras, under the direction of Caris Dunn, is a group of Boyd’s most elite dancers. The Bailadoras perform at pep rallies, varsity football games, select basketball and soccer games, events throughout McKinney and produce a spring dance show.
