Relay For Life of McKinney Committee seeks sponsors to reach American Cancer Society fund-raising goal

Whether it is a $100 or $10,000, every little bit counts when it comes to businesses and individuals sponsoring the annual fund-raising event for the American Cancer Society – Relay For Life of McKinney.

The 2014 ACS Relay For Life of McKinney Committee is currently seeking sponsors from McKinney and surrounding areas to help ensure that the overnight fund-raising event is a success! This year’s Relay For Life of McKinney, which is presented by Texas Oncology-McKinney, will be held 7 p.m. Fri. April 25 to 7 a.m. Sat., April 26 at the Ballfields at Craig Ranch, 6151 Alma Road in McKinney.

Relay For Life of McKinney will feature popular events that have accompanied the event for more than a decade. Those include the Cancer Survivor Walk, which is the first themed walk of the evening; the Luminaria event, where candle lit bags will be lined along the track during a moment of silence to honor those who are currently fighting their battle with cancer and those who have lost their battle with disease; the Mr. Relay Walk; entertainment; games; and activities for kids. The Illuminate McKinney event will happen in neighborhoods throughout McKinney prior to the actual Relay For Life event. It will include people purchasing Luminaria bags and placing them along the curbs in front of peoples’ homes at dusk to honor the memory of those who lost their battle with cancer and those who are currently fighting cancer, and to helpeducate and inform people about the ACS and Relay For Life!

Corporate and individual sponsors along with more than 100 teams comprised of people of all ages raise money months prior to the event and on Relay night to help reach the fund-raising goal of $430,000!

As of Feb. 19 the following businesses and individuals were committed sponsors for the 2014 Relay For Life of McKinney: Texas Oncology-McKinney, Title Sponsor, including doctors Monte Jones, Nandita Rao, Nithya Palanisamy, Ahad Athar, Jill Heffernan and Anand Shivnani who contributed to the $15,000 sponsorship; Independent Bank, Financial Sponsor; Medical Center of McKinney; Torchmark; and McKinney residents Beth and Steve Darling. Beth Darling is also the Illuminate McKinney chairperson and Relay For Life of McKinney committee member.

“The Relay For Life of McKinney would not be possible without the teams and the help from corporate and individual sponsors. We appreciate all of our sponsors and hope that more will sign up to make this great event a success,” said 2014 Relay For Life of McKinney Director of Finance Sharon Laird.

Businesses and individuals who donate $1,000 or more will receive additional Relay team T-shirts and their business name on the Relay team T-shirts, the event program, a looped video played on a big screen during the event, name on printed materials at event-related functions, and a thank you ad in the local newspaper, among other amenities.
