Dr. Jennifer Peirson Takes The Reins At McKinney Boyd High School

Dr. Jennifer Peirson has been chosen as the new principal of McKinney Boyd High School, and the decision was approved by the McKinney ISD Board of Trustees during their regular monthly meeting Tuesday night.

A veteran educator and administrator of 19 years, Peirson should feel right at home in her new role at Boyd; she has served there as associate principal for the past six years, and this spring, Peirson stepped in as interim principal following the departure of Rick McDaniel who was promoted to a key district-level leadership position.

The transition from associate principal to principal is a logical next step in Peirson’s career.

“I am very excited about the opportunity to have Dr. Peirson serve as principal of Boyd High School,” McKinney ISD Superintendent Dr. J.D. Kennedy said. “As interim, she has handled the job masterfully, as I expected. More than that, through her years of experience serving as associate principal there, she has proven herself and deserves this opportunity. She has demonstrated over the years a wonderful relationship with faculty, staff and parents in that community. Her leadership has moved Boyd High School forward over the past few years, and I feel like she will continue to move Boyd forward as principal.”

Peirson began her career in the mid ’90’s as a special education teacher and swimming coach at San Angelo Central High School and then at South Garland High School. In 2002, she was hired as an assistant principal at Webb Middle School in Garland ISD, and then three years later transitioned to Lakeview Centennial High School where she served as assistant principal until 2008.

It was in 2008 that Peirson came to McKinney ISD to serve as associate principal of Boyd, and her leadership played a vital role in establishing the successful academic culture the school boasts today.

For Peirson, though, there is always more work to be done.

"I am so fortunate and blessed to be walking into a situation where the culture and student success have been at such a high level," said Peirson of her new role. "But, we always have room for improvement, and will continue to focus on engaging all of our students. We want to ensure that all of our students are challenged and provided the necessary support to be successful. I am grateful for the opportunity to lead such a talented staff and group of students.

“I am so excited and looking forward to everything that it’s going to bring. Being here for the past six years, the school definitely has grown in my heart, and so I look forward to all of the future endeavors that we’re going to tackle together. I’m just excited,” Peirson said.
