Looking for weekend plans this spring? Consider some of Dallas’ local breweries, where the crafting comes easy for these beer entrepreneurs. Or, stop in at the local supermarket and pick up a six-pack of a local brew instead.

Lakewood Brewing Company

At Lakewood Brewing Company in Garland, the taproom is open and these guys have the right idea with “chilling” down to a science. Making some of the best craft beer in the Big D, Lakewood Brewing Company produces internationally inspired, locally crafted beers with a selection of year-round offerings and a choice of seasonal tastes, too.

Recognized nationally in major beer competitions and now in its third year, founder Wim Bens said, “Each year brings its own unique experiences, so every year our anniversary beer will have its own unique style.”

The brewing company also began production and distribution of cans back in April with the Lakewood Lager, Rock Ryder and a new session IPA. At the Taproom, try one of the Temptress choices made from small batches and created specifically to seduce the taste buds.

With 14,000 square-feet and the newly opened taproom now operating like a traditional bar, customers can walk in during open hours, purchase a beer and even take a tour of the new facility on Saturday and Sunday.

Franconia Brewing Company

Located in McKinney, Franconia Brewing Company not only offers a variety of options that can be found at local supermarkets, but you can also tour the brewery every Saturday, learning all about Franconia’s beer and the company’s sustainable practices.

“We brew the German Puritan way,” says owner Dennis Wehrmann, a fifth-generation brewmaster.

Opened in 2008, Franconia Brewing Company sold their first craft beer at stores after Wehrmann began bottling in 2013. With a variety of beer choices, there are six seasonal and two specialty options including the Triple Dunkle and Double IPA.

Saturday morning tours are $5 and Wehrmann encourages folks to head to nearby Downtown McKinney after the tour to try out one of the city’s great restaurants on the square.

Twin Peaks Brewing Company

While Twin Peaks Brewing Company recently launched canned craft beer at local DFW retailers like Dirty Blonde American White Ale, Gold Digger Golden Ale and the Knotty Brunette American Brown Ale, you can still find Dirty Blonde, Knotty Brunette and Gold Digger Cans brewed locally at the Twin Peaks Brewery, too. The cans are not available for purchase directly from the brewery, but Twin Peaks features a Growler Happy Hour Monday to Friday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. where guests can bring their Twin Peaks growler to be filled with one of the house beers available only at Twin Peaks Irving.

“For nearly 10 years, Twin Peaks has upheld its promise to provide the coldest beer in town, always served at a freezing 29-degrees,” says Tim Timbs, Vice President at Twin Peaks. “We are thrilled that customers can now enjoy our high-quality, made-from-scratch craft beer both in and outside of our restaurants.”
