In continued efforts to fight the spread of West Nile Virus (WNV) following the confirmation of a human case of WNV in McKinney, the City of McKinney will spray for mosquitoes on three upcoming nights, as recommended by the Center for Disease Control, on Aug. 28, Aug. 29 and Aug. 31.

From the City of McKinney:

McKinney has confirmed a new positive human case of West Nile Virus and will spray areas of the city starting tonight. Crews will spray east of U.S. 75, South of Virginia Pkwy., West of S.H. 5 (McDonald St.) and North of Market Place. Weather permitting, the spraying will take place overnight starting at approximately 10 p.m. on Aug. 28, Aug. 29 and Aug. 31. Spraying will take place on three nights in the area as recommended by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) when a human case of West Nile Virus is confirmed. 

Signs will be posted at major intersections to notify residents of spraying activity and information. Residents in the spray area are advised to stay indoors during the spray period and should bring their pets inside that evening. A map of all areas of the city that have been sprayed to treat for West Nile Virus is posted on the city’s website at www.mckinneytexas.org/mosquitocontrol.

McKinney has confirmed five human cases of West Nile Virus this year and 12 mosquito cases. The city will continue to monitor mosquito activity and take measures to control mosquitoes. The chemical sprayed during mosquito control measures to combat the West Nile Virus is Aqualeur 20/20, a synthetic compound similar to a chemical that occurs naturally in Chrysanthemums.
