McKinney to Spray for Mosquitoes Aug. 13-15

McKinney has received confirmation of the first human case of West Nile Virus in the city and will spray an area in order to control mosquitoes. Recently, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommended spraying three consecutive days in the same spray area to better combat the increased threat of the West Nile Virus. In addition to the previously planned spraying activity tonight, the same area also will be sprayed for the next two nights to meet the CDC recommendations.

Weather permitting, the spraying will take place during the following times:

  • Between 10 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 13 and 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 14
  • Between 10 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 14 and 6 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 15
  • Between 10 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15 and 6 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 16

The spray area is generally in an area south of U.S. 380, west of Airport Road, north of Industrial Boulevard, and east of College Drive. Signs will be posted at major intersections to notify residents of spraying activity and information. A map of the spray area is posted on the city’s website at www.mckinneytexas.org/mosquitocontrol

Residents in the spray area are advised to stay indoors during the spray period and should bring their pets inside that evening. Residents who do not want to spray near their home may contact the City of McKinney Health Compliance at 972-547-7447 by 2 p.m. the day of spraying.

McKinney will continue to monitor mosquito activity and take measures to control mosquitoes. Residents may report standing water, illegal dumping and increased mosquito activity through McKinney’s West Nile information line at 972-547-7473.
