McKinney has confirmed two positive cases of West Nile Virus in mosquitoes from surveillance traps and will spray areas of the city next week. 

Weather permitting, the spraying will take place between 10 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 20 and 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 21 generally in an area south of Virginia Pkwy., west of U.S. 75, north Eldorado Pkwy. and east of Ridge Rd. Between 10 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 21 and 6 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 22, crews will spray generally in an area south of University Dr., west Ridge Rd., north Eldorado Pkwy., and east of Custer Rd. 

Signs will be posted at major intersections to notify residents of spraying activity and information. Residents in the spray area are advised to stay indoors during the spray period and should bring their pets inside that evening.A map of the spray area is posted on the city’s website at www.mckinneytexas.org/mosquitocontrol. Residents who do not want to spray near their home may contact the City of McKinney Health Compliance at 972-547-7447 by 2 p.m. the day of spraying. 

McKinney has confirmed two human cases of West Nile Virus this year and 11 mosquito cases. The city will continue to monitor mosquito activity and take measures to control mosquitoes. Residents are encouraged to report standing water, illegal dumping and increased mosquito activity through McKinney’s West Nile information line at 972-547-7473.
