A lot of people ask us what kinds of things they should be keeping in their vehicles at all times. Here’s a list of items that should be in your vehicle year-round, regardless of where you live.

1. A spare tire. Everyone assumes they have a spare tire. But sometimes we use a spare and forget to replace it. Or, maybe you bought a used car that didn’t come with a spare. So check that out, and make sure you have one!

2. A glass breaker. You can buy these at any auto parts store. If you find yourself in high water, or if your car is submerged in water, you can use a glass breaker to break out your car window so that you can escape. 

3. An umbrella. You never know when you might find yourself in a rain storm. Here in Texas especially, it can be sunny one minute, and the next thing you know you look up and there’s a thunderstorm! And there’s nothing worse than going back to work soaking wet.

4. A wheel lock. Keep your wheel lock in your glove box or console. There’s nothing worse than being all ready to change your tire—but you can’t get the tire off! The wheel lock is great for security, but if you don’t have it, you can’t get your tires off either. 

5. A jack. Still on the tire theme: You also need a jack to change a tire. Also, make sure you know how to use the jack, and how to change the tire! If you don’t know how, let us know and we can help you out with that. 

6. Jumper cables. You never know when you’ll have a dead battery and need a jump. Or, when you’ll run into someone else who needs one! 

7. A flashlight. You never know when you might need a flashlight. These are always handy to have around. 

There are many other items you might want to carry with you, but those are the main ones we wanted to cover.
