MISD Bond Election About More Than Just a Football Stadium

The 2016 McKinney school bond election is about so much more than a "football stadium for football players.

The majority of the $220 million bond will address much needed additions, renovations, classroom technology and safety and security upgrades across the district. All children who attend MISD schools today, and in the future, will benefit from these improvements.

The $50 million events center and football stadium makes up just 23% of the bond package. Ron Poe Stadium was built in 1962 when McKinney had one high school and 7000 students. Today's enrollment is 25,000 with three high schools. The current stadium in woefully inadequate to serve the 35,000 students who utilized it last year. I applaud the school district for having the vision to plan for future growth as McKinney continues to develop.

McKinney residents understand that a great school system is the backbone to a great community and a great community is the foundation for attracting businesses to help ease the residential tax burden. This bond is about moving McKinney forward, not about a "football stadium". On May 7, we have the opportunity to invest in our children and at the same time lower our tax rate. I'm voting yes.
