McKinney Repertory Theatre Presents 'Belle of West Texas' Melodrama

The villain is back and boy howdy there’s trouble!  He is trying once again to swindle people out of their much needed and hard-earned money.   McKinney Repertory Theatre (MRT) presents their annual melodrama, this year it’s “The Belle of West Texas,” August 1 – 2 and August 8 - 9 in the Courtroom Theatre at the McKinney Performing Arts Center (MPAC) at 8 p.m. and a matinee at 2:30 p.m. August 10.  Tickets are $17 – Adults, $14 – Students/Seniors and $12 – Children.

This year’s melodrama, written by Texas playwright, Carol M. Rice, centers around the Holiday Inn in Oil Well, Texas run by poor Lizzie Holiday whose sweet, innocent daughter, Belle, is pursued by villain Gerald Snively when he learns of a secret inheritance.  Enter the handsome hero, Eddie Allswell, and the sparks fly.  Deception and heroics ensue as the villain’s sidekick, Melinda Mooch, gets involved in the action along with Sheriff Bob White and saloon entertainers Fifi Songbird and Rufus Hands.

Director Leslie Austin has assembled a cast of local favorites as well as a few new faces in this family-friendly, popcorn throwin’, booin’ and hissin’, old-fashioned comedy.  Austin is using her skilled directorial hand to add some extra fun and plenty of audience interaction.  Morgan Bond portrays Belle Holiday, Daniel Frank plays Eddie Allswell and Joe Shimek gives his interpretation of Gerald Snively.  Kasey Bush is Fifi Songbird, Alex Ammons is Rufus Hands, Nicole Holbert is Melinda Mooch, Stephanie Ludlow Kelly is Lizzie Holiday, Brett Femrite is Sherriff Bob White and J.R. DeLaney is Lawyer Pitts.  Producer is the well-known MRT veteran, Jacob Correll.
