Carnival Brings Seniors and Youth Together on a Lovely Fall Saturday

“Carnival Brings Youth and Senior Citizens Together on a Lovely Fall Saturday”

Residents at Country Lane Senior Community were treated to a Carnival presented by the youth from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  As part of a fall Youth Conference, McKinney teens wanted to plan an event where they could participate in face-to-face service.  They selected the idea of a carnival for seniors in our community to brighten their day, have some fun and connect one on one!

New friendships developed between residents and youth as seniors played games, decorated cookies, threw darts, line danced, won prizes, and talked with the youth about their life stories.  After 18 months of COVID, it was a treat for both seniors and youth to be together sharing experiences and enjoying the fall activities.

Darlene Wagner, Activities Coordinator at Country Lane Senior Community, said, “It was a hit! Our residents greatly enjoyed the activities and so appreciated how great and professional the kids were. They were there to serve and I would love to have them back!”

“What an awesome day at the Country Lane Senior Community thanks to the youth from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who put on a fantastic carnival/festival for all the residents.  I appreciate our youth and their caring and loving for others, how refreshing!”  -Mayor George Fuller.
