McKinney Council President Holly Sanchez addressed the school board and administration last night at the school board meeting at Central Office. The statement given was for the purpose of informing the board and school officials of the action of the McKinney Council PTA. Statement is posted below:
"I would like to read to you a quick update from The McKinney Council PTA from the executive board. In May we elected our new officers and held our first meeting and orientation. We are excited to announce that we have added two new chair positions; Diversity and Volunteers. Also in May, the council participated at Serve McKinney to bring awareness to McKinney residents about PTA and our Advocacy work. We hope in the future to work with more volunteer groups in McKinney and build a stronger relationship with the district, parents and students.
In June, as council president, I attended Texas PTA Lonestar Leadership Weekend in Houston. Council and area presidents from around Texas were in attendance as well as the Texas PTA board, directors and employees. I was awarded "Most Potential" and McKinney council was awarded "All Active PTAs" and "Growth in Membership."
In July, Texas PTA held its annual summer leadership seminar here in Dallas, Texas at the Hilton Anatole! This is the first time ever the Texas PTA has held it here locally, as in the past it has been held in Austin. Many PTA leaders attended this training including the principals at Lawson Early Childhood School and Rubin Johnson Elementary. Texas PTA offers free admission and accommodations to PTA school administration and school board members to attend this training weekend. The next date is In July 2014 in Houston, Texas. We invite the school board and administrators to attend. Please let me know if you would like to go.
August 1, the McKinney Council PTA hosted a breakfast for the administrators retreat and presented a quick overview of PTA given by many administrators about how PTA has impacted them and then got to hear from myself, McKinney Council PTA President, Area PTA President Kathryn Lewis and Texas PTA Council's Chair Lori Norman, all of which are parents here at MISD. Currently, the council is working on organizing a new PTA at Burks Elementary! We are very excited to add this wonderful school to PTA and have had amazing feedback from staff and parents already!
This Thursday the Council executive board will be meeting to discuss important matters such as the TRE. Our next regular PTA meeting, for all school board members, administration, PTA presidents, principals, delegates, parents and students, is on September 16 here in this room at noon. All are welcome to attend. We will have information about the TRE, a vote to support the TRE as a Council PTA and some information about what is to come with council PTA this year.
