McKinney, Texas – After 20 months, the McKinney Farmers Market is moving back to Chestnut Street!

The Hunt Street location in front of the downtown library has accommodated the Farmers Market since the summer of 2017.

“The Hunt Street location was a great place for the market.” Said Jaymie Pedigo, Executive Director of the Heritage Guild, who operates the market. “Main Street McKinney, the McKinney Community Development Corporation, the City Manager’s Office, Parks & Recreation and Planning & Zoning were all involved in the relocation. We ended up with a spot that had ample parking, was highly visible, had great accessibility and provided easy loading and set-up for the vendors.”

On March 2nd, the market returns to Chestnut Square, with a new expanded layout, plenty of parking and great accessibility. “We heard what people said about the ease of having the market on flat, smooth surfaces. To that end, with funding from MCDC, we leveled and resurfaced the interior of the Village where the main section of the market was with crushed granite, making it easier for vendors and customers with strollers or wheelchairs.” Pedigo added.

A large part of the market will be located on the newly extended Chestnut Street, from Anthony Street on the south end to Davis Street on the north end. The public Playful parking lot to the north of Chestnut Square and the Davis at the Square garage will provide approximately 300 parking spaces to serve market customers.

A series of special activities are planned, including Master Gardener Demos, themed history tours by costumed docents, butterfly, nutrition and chef events.

There is one more market scheduled for February 16th on Hunt Street, then the market is scheduled at Chestnut Square for March 2, 16 & 30, and then weekly beginning April 6.

“All of your favorite vendors will be there! March is technically still the winter season, so we will not be at full capacity until the summer, but you’ll see more vendors every week between March & June”, said Jim Doyle, Market Manager.
