Jean Roberts, 2014 Production The Vagina Monologues

Hope Rising will once again present Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues on March 23rd, 8pm at The Sanctuary in Adriatica Village of McKinney, TX.  and benefiting The Turning Point Rape Crisis Center.

The Turning Point Rape Crisis Center is Collin County’s Only Rape Crisis Center.  The agency originated in 1982, in conjunction with the North Texas Medical Center and the McKinney Police Department, to ensure that survivors of sexual assault had a professional support system to help them in their recovery.  Their focus is on the treatment and prevention of bullying, sexual harassment and sexual assault.  All services to survivors at The Turning Point are free of charge.

Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues, celebrating the 20th Anniversary of it’s debut,  is based on interviews with over 200 women about their memories and experiences of sexuality. It gives voice to women’s deepest fantasies and fears, celebrating female sexuality in all its complexity and mystery.  Also addressing women’s resiliency, sensuality and the social stigma surrounding abuse and violence against women and girls.  In this era of #metoo and #timesup, Hope Rising, aspires to have the McKinney community to rise and show their support and continue their work to end intimate partner violence and sexual violence not just in McKinney but all over the world.

Hope Rising’s mission is to create positive change through arts-related events and activities that foster education and awareness about sexual and domestic violence and with the proceeds from those events provide support to victim services in Collin County and beyond.  Hope Rising believes that art has the ability to educate and transform society.  They produce two major projects and several smaller projects each year from visual art to music, theater and more.  Since formation in 2013 they have raised well over $40,000 for sexual and domestic violence services in the area.

Hope Rising’s production is brought to you by an all volunteer cast and production crew, featuring professional actresses along side brave women who have never been on stage before.  It promises to be an elegant evening of funny and insightful words of hope.  This is the fourth production of The Vagina Monologues, now a bi-annual event, done by Hope Rising and directed by Pamela Harden.
