1972 Fiat 124 Spider

More than 100 cars have been selected to be displayed and juried in the Collectors Concours at the 3rd annual Park Place Luxury & Supercar Showcase, including three McKinney residents: Bob & Frances Dezzany’s 1972 Fiat 124 Spider; Dan Welling’s 1967 Jaguar Coupe; and Michael Monin’s 2019 McLaren 570S.

“We are the original owners of the ’72 Fiat 124 Spider,” said Bob Dezzany. “In 2014, I completed a full restoration as a resto-mod, including the installation of a 2-Liter 1982 highly modified Fiat engine with twin Webers, headers and an electronic ignition. The mild exterior changes allowed the lines of the Pininfarina body to be enhanced. Prior to becoming a resto-mod, it was always kept in pristine condition and was shown over the years, winning a number of awards, including Best in Class at Automobili Italiane, Dallas, in 1988, 1992 and 1997. After becoming a resto-mod, it won Best of Class at 2014 ItalianCarFest in Grapevine and Best of Class at Keels & Wheels, Seabrook, in 2015.”

“My car is a 1967 Jaguar Coupe with a numbers matching 6-cylinder engine,” explained Dan Welling. “It was originally owned by a professor at Kansas City University. He sold it to a young man in the Kansas City area, who got tired of trying to get it running properly. This young man listed it in the newspaper and the guy I bought it from answered his ad. Turns out the guys were high school friends. So he not only found a great deal on a car, he reconnected with an old friend. Over the years, he drove it sparingly as a weekend driver. In 2000 he commissioned a complete restoration that lasted 10 years. Unfortunatley, he fell ill and lost power in his left leg and never got to properly drive it. I plan on sending him photos of the car at the show.”

“My 2019 Vermillion Red McLaren 570S Coupe has a rare carbon fiber center console tunnel,” said Michael Monin. “Other features include a full carbon fiber engine cover, carbon fiber mirrors, and those beautiful McLaren dihedral doors.  2019 was the last model year for the 570S. It was also one of the last McLaren cars designed while Ron Dennis was the McLaren CEO.”
