The Best Places to Snap Great Family Photos This Fall

Trying to take good family photos during the summer is nearly impossible. Everyone's a sweaty mess, and the mosquitos and humidity leave everyone looking pained during the experience.

Thankfully, temperatures should start to wind down soon as the beginning of fall approaches. Soon you'll be able to stage a family photo shoot that's actually fun for everyone involved.

Not sure where to take your pictures? Here are some great locations that offer stunning fall backdrops and plenty of photo opportunities. Hire a photographer to accompany you on your trip, or grab your camera and stage the photos on your own.

Autumn at the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens

This one's a bit of a no-brainer, and if you're willing to pay the substantial admission fee to get into the gardens with the whole family, the Pumpkin Village is one of the best photo locations in the DFW area. The sooner you go, the more intact the pumpkins and other gourds will be. The Arboretum's autumn activities begin this weekend on September 22.

Arbor Hills Nature Preserve in Plano

Local families love checking this place out once the weather is nice and cool. Whether you're hosting a family picnic or simply walking the pretty trails at dusk, Arbor Hills is home to a variety of great backdrops for photos. If you go towards the middle or end of fall, you might even catch the trees right as the leaves are changing to beautiful gold and red hues.

The Heard Museum in McKinney

With life-size dinosaur animatronics, miles of trails surrounded by nature, and plenty of wildlife for everyone to enjoy without crowds, the Heard Museum is a great place to spend a day as a family. Bring your camera to snag pictures of the kids frolicking in fields and gaping at a T-Rex as big as a small house.

The Big Orange Pumpkin Farm - Preston Trail Farms

You might be thinking it's too early to consider visiting a pumpkin patch, but you know fall will fly by. Plan your trip to this beloved pumpkin farm today to ensure you view it at the best time of year. It's just north of the DFW metroplex, and people of all ages are welcome to enjoy a hay maze, hay rides, a petting zoo, and of course, lots of pumpkins. The photo opportunities just don't end.

Spring Creek Forest in Garland

If you're just looking for some pretty natural surroundings, this preserve has what you need. It's located just minutes from Richardson, Plano, Dallas, and Mesquite, which makes an evening photo session doable for busy families. There's even a small creek that makes for a lovely backdrop.

White Rock Lake in Dallas

Everyone who lives in the DFW area knows White Rock Lake, but don't overlook it when you're deciding where to stage your family photos. Professional and amateur photographers alike can locate a variety of fun locations for pictures, like picnic areas and piers, as well as over nine miles of hiking trails.

Cedar Ridge Preserve in Cedar Hill

Just 20 minutes from downtown Dallas lies a beautiful preserve that covers more than 600 acres. Lots of people visit for bird-watching and hiking, but it's also an excellent destination for photographers with beautiful green foliage year-round.
