Though Veterans Day is Friday, November 11, you’ll have two chances to honor those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.  Residents of McKinney and the local community are invited to attend a ceremony to honor veterans and dedicate the Veterans Memorial Park in McKinney on Saturday, November 12, at 11 a.m.

The event will feature speakers that include U.S. Congressmen Sam Johnson and Ralph Hall, and McKinney Mayor Brian Loughmiller.  In addition to speakers, the event will also host the McKinney North High School Choir, a flyover and a performance of Taps.

The Veterans Memorial Park is located at 6053 Weiskopf Ave. in Craig Ranch and features a Wall of Honor listing the names of service members of Collin County who have died in the line of duty.  The park honors all veterans.

Following the dedication ceremony, LegacyTexas Bank will host the Lone Star Salute until 2 p.m.  Attendees are encouraged to attend for an opportunity to tour the park and visit with friends, family and veterans.  LegacyTexas Bank will also collect personal care items for the creation of care packages to be sent to Texas troops.

In addition to the Saturday dedication activities, a sundown ceremony, which includes the reading of the 345 names on the Wall of Honor, will begin at sunset.  An assembly bugle call will sound at 5:45 p.m.
