Krewe of Barkus Parade of Pooches Gets Groovy in Downtown McKinney

Downtown McKinney is looking for beagles to boogie and dalmations to disco at the 12th annual Krewe of Barkus Mardi Gras dog parade and costume contest Sunday, March 2. Pooches are encouraged to celebrate the fads, fashion, music, and entertainment that kept tails wagging in the ‘50s, ‘60s, ‘70s, and ‘80s.

Krewe of Barkus: Barkus Goes Back in Time begins at 12:30 p.m. at Mitchell Park with a costume contest, vendor booths and Pawty in the Park, which includes free activities for the entire family. The parade begins at 2 p.m.

The costume contest and float entry fee is $5 per dog or float, and pre-registration is required. To register, contact the Art Institute of McKinney at info@artinstituteofmckinney.com by Feb. 23. Include the dog’s name, color and breed, along with the owner’s name, address, phone number and e-mail address. Prizes will be awarded for each size (small, medium, large and exceptionally large) for Best Costume, Best Dog and Owner Combo, Best Decade, and overall Best of Show.
