Summer is in full swing, which means that your calendar is probably wide open for local entertainment. Here are some of the best events taking place in July throughout the metroplex. Which shows and activities are you most excited to check out? 

Dallas CASA Presents Parade of Playhouses (Now Until July 15) 

Right now, NorthPark Center is showcasing seventeen days of imaginative children's playhouses. The event benefits abused and neglected children in the area and includes a raffle for the chance to win one of the creative playhouses. Dallas Summer Musicals Presents The Lion King
(Select Dates From Now Until July 8) 

Haven't you always wanted to see this award-winning musical performed on stage? You seriously don't want to miss the incredible cast and visual spectacles. There are only a few more nights to see "Can You Feel The Love Tonight" and "Circle of Life" sung live, so snag your tickets as quickly as possible. 

Dog Days of Summer by Dark Hour Haunted House (July 6-7)

This show features a creepy old witch, Baba Lupina, who can transform herself into a werewolf. As a traveler in the Louisiana Bayou, you'll be forced to face many threats and avoid being eaten by the terrifying pack of monsters. The Taming of the Shrew by Shakespeare Dallas (July 4 to July 13)

Head to the Samuell-Grand Amphitheatre to see this classic Shakespearean story brought to life. You can sprawl out on a blanket and have your very own picnic as you watch talented actors portray the merchant Baptista and his scheming two daughters. Tickets are available now online. 

Hairspray at the Winspear Opera House (July 7 to July 15) 

Presented by the Dallas Theater Center and the AT&T Performing Arts Center, this Broadway musical is sure to bring a smile to your face. The beat is big and bold in Hairspray, as are the actors and cast members. Laugh, cry and sing along as Tracy Turnblad's dreams come true on stage. Tickets are available now. 

The "Ultimate Dinosaurs" Exhibit at the Perot Museum
(Open From Now Until January 6) 

This traveling exhibition gives visitors the opportunity to learn about rarely-seen dino species, as well as cutting-edge technology used by modern paleontologists. Bring the kids along and take a trip back to prehistoric times, then meander around the rest of the interactive museum. Tickets to the Ultimate Dinosaurs exhibit are not included with your regular price of admission to the Perot. 

Sweet Tooth Hotel 
(Open From Now Until August 31)

Calling all local Instagram influencers! Sweet Tooth Hotel in Dallas is a 1,200 square-foot experiential art and repair pop-up. Your ticket will give you entry to the incredible unique exhibit for an hour, and you can use the time to snap tons of photos and take in the interactive installations. Tickets are only available for a limited time, so purchase yours soon if you want to add a special flair to your social media feed this month. 

"Wind Sculptures in Motion" at the Dallas Arboretum
(From Now Until July 31) 

The outdoors may be blisteringly hot right now, but that doesn't mean you should skip this interesting event at the most popular garden in Dallas. Dallas Summer Musicals Presents Love Never Dies: The Phantom Returns
(July 24 to August 5) 

It's been ten years since the Phantom disappeared from the Paris Opera House, and now, he's escaped to a new life in New York surrounded by other misfits on Coney Island. However, he's never stopped love Christine, and he eventually lures her, Raoul and their son to Coney Island. Catch the live performance in Dallas to find out what happens to these classic characters and to witness talented performers on the big stage.
