Boy, is there a ton happening in the Dallas-Fort Worth area this month. From concerts and rodeos to ballets and live superheroes, here are some of the top events you need to put on your calendar in August. Which ones are you most excited to check out? 

Angelika Film Center presents Studio Ghibli Festival (Select Dates Now Until August 23) 

If you can't get enough of Studio Ghibli's heartwarming, imaginative tales, take this opportunity to catch a few of them on the big screen. Over the course of August, the Angelika Film Center will be showing four of the Japanese films with English subtitles. Check out when your favorite film is playing here, and be sure to grab tickets in advance. 

Watermelon Festival at Dallas Farmers Market
(August 4) 

Nothing is a better testament to summer than a day spent devouring juicy watermelons and engaging in family-friendly activities. The Dallas Farmers Market is going to have huge mounds of melons for sale, as well as a petting zoo, kids crafts, story times, games, tastings, dancing, live music, a watermelon themed cake walk and so much more. Bring a reusable bag so that you have plenty of room to collect food and crafts. 

Panic! At the Disco Concert
(August 4)

The band behind "I Write Sings Not Tragedies" and other famous hits is coming to Dallas to promote their newest album, Pray for the Wicked. A Panic! At the Disco concert is the perfect place to belt out lyrics and dance your heart out, so snag your tickets before they're sold out (they're going pretty quickly). 

Dallas Holocaust Museum Center for Education and Tolerance presents Summer Survivor Speaker Series
(August 8, 12, and 22) 

In a three-event series, the museum will present the testimonies of Holocaust survivors, refugees, and hidden children. There will also be second-generation survivors and survivors of modern-day genocides present to speak to the audience. Take this opportunity to come together as a community and listen to the stories of incredible people who have lived through some of the biggest atrocities of the last century. 

Marvel Universe Live! Age of Heroes
(August 9 - 12) 

Any fan of the Avengers, Spider-Man, the Guardians of the Galaxy and the rest of the Marvel universe simply needs to book a seat at this event. Marvel Universe Live! brings an action-packed performance to the stage, along with impressive special effects and pyrotechnics. School of Rock - The Musical
(August 15 - 26) 

Dallas Summer Musicals is back with another fantastic show. This time, a cast will bring the hit film School of Rock to life in a whole new way. The musical features 14 new songs, as well as humorous dialogue and childish fun. Purchase your tickets today to ensure you have a seat for the show at the Music Hall of Fair Park. 

Shakira El Dorado World Tour 
(August 21) 

The Columbian singer-songwriter and professional dancer is returning to Dallas to promote her newest creation, El Dorado. Grab tickets to her concert to see hit songs like "Waka Waka" and "Hips Don't Lie" performed live by the queen herself at American Airlines Center in Dallas. 

North Texas Fair and Rodeo
(August 17 - 15) 

The State Fair might not be around the corner just yet, but this local event is known throughout the area as a center of country music and exciting exhibits. Get ready for nine nights of rodeos, livestock shows, kid zones, and most importantly, live musical performances by country bands. Check out the band lineup here, then plan your visit around the performance you'd like to see. 

Texas Ballet Theater presents Cinderella 
(August 24 - 26)

Take your little ballerina to see this beloved fairytale danced out on stage. The beautiful choreography and breathtaking sets of the Texas Ballet Theater are not to be missed, and this particular show is perfect for young dancers who might not have the patience to sit through a lesser-known story.
