National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month: Be the One to Help

The month of September is National Suicide Prevention Month. People are teaming up across the country to advocate for mental health while sharing their time and resources.

The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline's official message for the month is "#BeThe1To." The organization wants people to change the conversation from talking about suicide to talking about how we can prevent it by giving help and hope to people who are struggling. The NSPL wants you to be the one to:

-Ask how someone is feeling or if they need help
-Keep at-risk individuals safe
-Be there if people need to talk without being judged
-Help struggling individuals connect with the support and safety they need
-Follow up after people have received help or been discharged from care services
-Learn more about what you can do to provide support

In honor of National Suicide Prevention Month, visit suicidepreventionlifeline.org. The NSPL has created a wide supply of resources, both for people who are struggling with mental health issues and for those who want to support them.

If you or someone you know is at-risk or feeling suicidal, don't hesitate to call 1-800-273-8255 immediately. Trained professionals are standing by to connect you with the resources and support you need.
