With fast-approaching warm weather and the excitement of spring in the air, this is the perfect month to get outside and check out the fun activities the Dallas area has to offer. Here are ten events you and your family will certainly want to attend during April. 

Dallas Summer Musicals presents Waitress (April 4 - 8) 

Grab your tickets now for one of the best shows of the season by the Dallas Summer Musicals, a non-profit organization. With songs by Sara Bareilles and a stellar cast of actors and creators, Waitress tells the story of an expert pie maker and server who dreams of leaving her small town and loveless marriage. You'll laugh, cry, and leave feeling totally empowered. 

Operation Blue Shield presents Superhero 5K/10K & Family Mile (April 7) 

This family-friendly road race gives community members a chance to come together and form a strong bond. Run with others who hope to make the DFW area a better place. Don't worry about being an avid runner; this is open to kids, beginners, and experts, so everyone can enjoy themselves. 

2018 Dallas Book Festival (April 7) 

Award-winning authors, including Hillary Jordan, Mariko Tamaki, and Jesse Andrews, will be participating in a panel at this annual event. There will also be lectures, writing workshops, book sales, signings, readings, and so much more. If you're a lover of literature, then you need to clear your schedule this weekend and attend the Dallas Book Festival. 

DFW Mud Run (April 7) 

Have you always dreamed of tackling a daring obstacle course but never actually committed to participating in one? Now's your chance! This mud run isn't for the faint of heart with 38 obstacles spread out over a ten-kilometer race. However, there's still something for everyone at this event, including a kid's race, a smaller 5K race, and even a race for your furry friends! Also, there'll be food and drinks to celebrate afterward. 

Fan Expo Dallas (April 6 - 8) 

Interested in seeing stars like Ben Affleck, Jason Momoa, and Jeff Goldblum in person? Then you certainly won't want to miss this huge event. Fans of comics, games, science fiction, anime, and horror films will get a kick out of the numerous celebrities gracing the exposition, and you'll have the opportunity to dress up as your favorite characters. Oh, did I mention that some of the kids from Stranger Things will be there? If that doesn't convince you to stop by, I don't know what will. 

2018 Deep Ellum Arts Festival (April 6 - 8) 

This three-day festival is returning to Dallas for the 24th time, and it's bringing a variety of music, food, and drinks with it. Drop by to witness some of the amazing performances, as well as the live art displays and food fares. Admission to the festival is free! 

Wanderlust 108 Dallas (April 14) 

Whether you're an avid yogi or a marathon runner, this triathlon is one you won't want to skip. You'll engage in a five-kilometer run, a musical yoga class, and a meditation session guided by skilled teachers. After, treat yourself to booths full of delicious food and impressive crafts. 

CFW Festival (April 13 - 14) 

If you love beer, food, wine, and country music, then you need to check out this two-day event in Arlington. Josh Abbott Band and Young the Giant, among others, will perform on Saturday as you wine and dine your way through the festival. There will also be live cooking demonstrations, so bring your appetite.  

Grand Prairie Main Street Fest (April 21 - 22) 

For the seventh time, the City of Grand Prairie will be hosting an event full of fun performances, music, arts and crafts, carnival rides, food, beer and more. There will even be a special kids zone to commemorate Earth Day. Stop by to enjoy a delicious meal and tons of entertainment. Admission and parking are free! 

North Texas Teen Book Festival (April 20 - 21) 

On this weekend, hundreds of readers will flock to the Irving Convention Center to celebrate a love of teen literature. Join them to learn more about the YA community and experience impressive panels and discussions with popular authors (including Cassandra Clare, Angie Thomas, Leigh Bardugo, and more). Admission is free!
