4 Local Honky Tonk Joints for Two-Stepping This Weekend

You know the saying "When in Rome, do as the Romans do." Well, when in Texas, do as the Texans do and get your honky tonk on at a local two-stepping venue. There are more than a few great options across the DFW metroplex, so there's no excuse for skipping the opportunity to slip on some cowboy boots and strut your stuff on the dance floor.

Cowboys Red River in Dallas
10310 Technology Blvd W, Dallas, TX 75220

They say everything is bigger in Texas, and this enormous dance hall proves that they're right. Line or partner dance your way around the large stage, play pool with friends, or grab a beer from one of their multiple bars. There's even a mechanical bull, so you and your buddies can try out your skills on the back of a bucking bronco. If you're not 100 percent set on listening to country tunes all night, don't worry; the DJ will play a handful of pop tunes to spice things up, so you'll get to test out all of your favorite dance styles. Remember that there are free dance lessons on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday nights from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM, so if you're not a frequent visitor, you can learn before the real fun begins.

Billy Bob's in Fort Worth
2520 Rodeo Plaza, Fort Worth, TX 76164

Although this venue's two-stepping space isn't quite as large as Dallas' Cowboys Red River, it makes up for its undersized dance floor with fantastic performances by famous country music stars. There's also an indoor rodeo arena, dozens of bars, and enough mechanical bulls for everyone to test their strength. On Friday, Corey Smith will be performing, and Trace Adkins will hit the stage Saturday night. Grab your date and head to the touristy Western area of Fort Worth to get your groove on and listen to some live tunes. If you want to snag a spot close to the stage, make sure to arrive early because the floor will be packed.

Electric Cowboy in Lewisville

1165 S Stemmons Fwy #130, Lewisville, TX 75067

You don't have to head into Dallas or Fort Worth to experience an authentic honky tonk. Lewisville is home to an unassuming yet thoroughly enjoyable dance hall called Electric Cowboy. Their amazing drink specials, fun selection of music, and humble Western theme make it a great fit for dancers of all ages. Like Cowboys Red River, the DJ will throw the occasional dance break in with a few rap or pop tunes, so you won't be overwhelmed by constant country singing. This dance hall is often a good option for beginners because it's smaller and less crowded than the first two on this list.

Adair's Saloon in Deep Ellum
2624 Commerce St, Dallas, TX 75226

Looking for something a little more laid back? Adair's Saloon is a local favorite that hosts two-stepping, but also keeps things fairly low-key. With live music and affordable drinks, this is a great dive bar for people who want to dip their toe into the world of Western dancing without going all in at a larger dance hall. If you get a little hungry, be sure to try their delicious grilled cheese or one of their burgers. The Palominos and Jason Herrin Band will perform on Friday of this week. On Saturday, drop by to see Ryan Kennedy and Green River Revival on stage, as well as the Whiskey Prophets. All of the musical performances are free!
