July is almost over and summer is in full swing, which means there's no better time to plop down by the pool with a good book.  We've narrowed down five of the most well-reviewed books that came out over the past few weeks so that you can find your next favorite novel. Which ones will you be tossing in your beach bag?

No One Tells You This by Glynnis MacNicol

In this memoir, MacNicol examines her biggest hopes and fears throughout her life. The book is a reckoning with modern womanhood, and don't worry; this woman's crazy adventures and struggles will keep you entertained for hours.

"Sharp, intimate... Unapologetic in her embrace of the ups and downs of the improvised solo life, MacNicol offers a refreshing view of the possibilities -and pitfalls- personal freedom can offer modern women. A funny, frank, and fearless memoir." - Kirkus

Eagle & Crane by Suzanne Rindell

Picture this: two brave flyers in a circus, aka Eagle and Crane, are the stars of the show during the Depression in California. The two young men have a complicated relationship due to their family histories, and when they both meet the beautiful Ava Brooks, things get even more heated. Follow along as the book explores Japanese internment camps, a mysterious plane crash, and a truly terrible part of American history.

“Rindell joins the ranks of popular historical fiction authors Kristin Hannah and Kate Quinn with this fast-paced, gripping novel that compellingly explores a tumultuous era of 20th-century history.” - Library Journal (starred review)

All Your Perfects by Colleen Hoover

Known for her poignant, heart-wrenching stories, Hoover returns to the stage with a brand new novel. This one takes a realistic look at how a married couple can move through difficult times and fight for each other when things matter. You'll be flipping through pages at lightning speed as characters Quinn and Graham struggle to repair their broken relationship.

"What a glorious and touching read, a forever keeper. The kind of book that gets handed down." - USA Today

The Last Time I Lied by Riley Sager

This novel begins with a game most of us have played since we were young: Two Truths and a Lie. Four little girls played it, but three slipped out the door and were never seen again. The last remaining girl, Emma, has grown into a successful artist living in New York. When she stumbles across an opportunity to find out what really happened to her friends so many years ago, she must face lies from both the past and present.

“The author delivers the kind of unpredictable conclusion that all thriller readers crave—utterly shocking yet craftily foreshadowed.” - The New York Times Book Review

The Ruin by Dervla McTiernan

Twenty years after he discovered a woman's body behind her home in Georgia, detective Cormac Reilly is faced with a new investigation set in the heart of Ireland. He must look into the "accidental" overdose of a mother that took place nearly two decades ago, and when he stumbles upon a hidden piece of evidence, he realizes everything is about to change.

“Compelling, unexpected twists and a hold-your-breath standoff... Hand this one to readers of Tana French and to police-procedural fans.” - Booklist

When you look for emergency medical treatment in the DFW area, your search will yield two different kinds of results scattered throughout the cities: urgent care clinics and emergency rooms. Although it's clear that the two kinds of medical facilities are different, when exactly should you be turning to each?

In general, urgent care clinics are equipped to handle problems that are not life-threatening. These are the places to go when you have a sprained ankle, a fever, minor cuts, burns, etc. Most urgent care facilities offer extended hours and are open seven days a week, and they typically provide benefits such as:

  • Shorter wait times (usually under 30 minutes)
  • Lower costs
  • Potentially no rate increases on insurance premiums
  • Access to X-rays and vaccinations
  • Child-friendly environments

On the other hand, an emergency room is the place to be when someone has sustained a serious injury or an illness that's extremely severe. If someone's symptoms have manifested quickly or traumatically, it's smart to err on the side of caution and seek out a real ER, not just an urgent care facility. They are much more equipped to handle time-sensitive issues like:

  • Poisoning, vomiting or coughing up blood
  • Severe wounds or amputations
  • Suicidal feelings
  • Chest pains, signs of stroke or shortness of breath

If you have further questions about which type of medical facility to visit, check out this website. We'd also love for you to share your favorite urgent care centers or emergency rooms in the comments below so that others can benefit from them.

Many times, when women hit the gym, they aren't going for a bulky, muscled look. That's why they are often inclined to hop on a treadmill or take cardio classes. They want to burn calories and slim down, not get ripped.

If you're a lady who loves aerobic activity but steers clear of the weight room, you might actually be depriving yourself of some major health benefits. Recent research has indicated that more women should be lifting weights for a variety of reasons, including the following.

Strength Training Is Necessary for Women's Bones

As people grow older, their bones change. They become less dense, more brittle, and extra prone to osteoporosis. Women are especially at risk of osteoporosis - it affects about 10 million Americans, and 80 percent of those individuals are female. By lifting weights and scheduling regular strength training sessions, women can boost their bone strength and decrease their risk of osteoporosis.

Lifting Weights May Actually Lower Your Risk of Diabetes

Studies conducted over the past few years suggest that women who frequently strength train have a 30 percent lower risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. Although simply lifting weights can help prevent the disease, further research found that adding at least 120 minutes of aerobic exercise to your weekly strength training regime yields the best results.

A Happy Heart Is a Healthy Heart

When you lift weights and use your own body weight to train, you increase the amount of "good" cholesterol that's floating around in your body. This makes your heart happy and seriously decreases your risk of cardiovascular disease. Because women's risk of death by heart disease goes up substantially after the age of 25, it's especially important for adult females to care for their hearts.

Aerobic Exercise + Regular Weight Training = Increased Metabolism

When it comes to your fitness routine, balance is key if you want to see drastic results. Just running on a treadmill or just tossing around some dumbells isn't going to give you that slim appearance you want. On the other hand, when women burn calories by engaging in cardio and building muscles that require lots of energy, they'll find that their metabolisms receive a healthy boost.

Strong Muscles Decrease the Risk of Injury

Whether you're an avid skier or a woman who simply takes a walk outside once a week, you'll lower your risk of painful accidents if you build strong ligaments and tendons. However, do make sure you're lifting weights and engaging in resistance training properly, or you might end up hurting your body more than helping.

The Weight Room Is Good for Your Mood

Okay, so maybe the obnoxious gym rats that typically hunker down in the area don't promote positive emotions, but weightlifting itself can put you in a better mood. The endorphins that are released during resistance training will leave you feeling more energized than you were before you pick up that barbell, so do yourself a favor and hit the gym when you're feeling irritated.

What are you waiting for? Find a weight training regime that works for you and start improving your health today. Aim for at least thirty minutes of lifting each week and at least 120 minutes of cardio for a body that's made to last.

Your family is busy on weeknights, so there's no shame in running through the occasional drive-thru and grabbing food for everyone. The problem is that if eating out becomes a habit, your food bill (and your waistline) can grow substantially.

Try switching things up with these healthy, cheap meals you can make from the comfort of your kitchen. Each costs roughly $5 to make and will leave you feeling full and satisfied without exposing your family to fast food.

Spaghetti With Garlic, Olive Oil, and Chili Flakes

Who says spaghetti has to be boring? When you use this recipe from PopSugar, the dish takes on a super flavorful punch, but it's still incredibly easy to make. All you need is the pasta, some garlic cloves, chili pepper flakes, olive oil, salt, and pepper. Bon appetite!

Healthy Stuffed Peppers

Take four medium bell peppers, slice them in half, then lay them in a nonstick baking dish. Cover them in turkey, delicious seasonings, black beans, salsa, and brown rice, then cook them according to this recipe from Sugar Free Mom. It's a simple meal to make, and each serving is low in calories but extremely filling.

Turkey Sloppy Joes With Homemade Sauce

Armed with some lean ground turkey, seasonings, cheese, buns, and condiments, you can whip up a batch of these bad boys for the whole family in under an hour. Using turkey instead of beef makes the meal a little healthier, and the homemade sauce is mostly comprised of ingredients you probably have in your cabinet.

Turkey Siracha Meatballs

Want some big flavor without a big price tag? Grab some ground turkey and make a batch of these delectable meatballs. Once they're drowned in a sriracha glaze and paired with fresh rice, everyone in the family will be dying for a bite. Most of the sauce ingredients are pretty common, so you might only need to grab a few key items at your local grocery store.

Sesame Beef Stir-Fry

The Dinner-Mom can show you how to make a delicious meal that tastes as good as takeout but that's half the price. In under 30 minutes, you and your family will be devouring tasty beef strips with a steaming plate of veggies that are covered in a soy ginger sauce. The recipe mostly just calls for spices, veggies, some brown sugar, and beef, so you shouldn't need to pick up many ingredients at the store if you have a fully-stocked kitchen. Serve the yummy mixture with some brown rice or eat it without any sides.

Healthy Baked Chicken Tenders

Are the kids craving some chicken fingers? Steer them towards this healthy alternative by Sarah Lipoff. All you have to do is toss some chicken with yogurt and mustard, add some seasoning, then refrigerate and bread them. Pop them in the oven at 425 degrees and you're in for a mouthwatering meal that's way better for your diet than McDonald's.
