Beginning on July 30, Collin County issued a burn ban.  Due to this ban, the City of McKinney Fire Department has also issued a burn ban and hot work permit program for those performing hot work or outdoor cutting and welding.

Permits will be free of charge and are intended to reinforce the importance of safety awareness during hot and dry conditions.

Residents performing work without a permit will be subject to citations, and permits will be required until Collin County lifts the burn ban.  Then, the program will be evaluated to determine if it will remain in place.

The burn ban and permit program pertains to all trench burning and recreational fires, including the use of a fire pit or campfire.  Barbecue grills or pits used exclusively for cooking are an exception to the program.

Permits for hot work will be issued at the Public Safety Building between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.  For more information, call the McKinney Fire Marshal's Office at 972-547-2879 or visit www.mckinneyfire.org.

The Public Safety Building is located at 2200 Taylor Burk Drive in McKinney.
