With the holiday season nearing an end, the City of McKinney encourages residents to recycle their trees and other natural decorations instead of throwing them away.

McKinney and Progressive Waste Solutions (formerly known as IESI) offer curbside pick-up for Christmas trees, poinsettias, natural wreaths and garlands as part of the  green waste recycling program. Pick-up will be on the regular trash day between Wednesday, Jan. 2 and Friday, Jan. 18. Remove all ornaments and lights and place the tree next to the recycling and waste bins for pick-up. Trees with flocking will not be picked up. Place poinsettias, non-artificial wreaths and garland in brown paper lawn bags that will also be picked up on the regular trash day.

McKinney provides two locations where residents can drop Christmas trees for recycling. Bring trees that are clean and free of decorations, lights and flocking to Al Ruschhaupt Soccer Complex at 1986 Park View Ave. or to the water tower on the corner of Eldorado and Alma Rd. in Gabe Nesbitt Community Park any time starting Wednesday, Dec. 26. Signs will be posted for exact location.

For questions about tree recycling, please call IESI at 469-452-8000.
