It has been an honor serving the City of McKinney as an At-Large member of the City Council since 2013.  To the citizens of McKinney, thank you for this great opportunity.  With the encouragement and support of family and many friends, I have decided to run for the office of Mayor of the City of McKinney.

I am proud of my experience and record as a Council member.  The city continues to grow and embrace opportunities in many areas. Over the past few years on Council, I have championed:

  • The creation of a Retail Strategy
  • Modifications to the Zoning Ordinance (zoning classifications and use charts)
  • Modifications to the Drainage Ordinance in an effort to streamline the development process
  • Initiated discussions with TxDOT, County and State elected officials to aid in the planning and future expansions of US Highway 75 throughout McKinney

The foundation of McKinney is strong, and the city is well positioned to take advantage of it. The future of our city has never been brighter, and I look forward to being a part of it for many years to come.

My focus:

  • Maintain the relationships between the City of McKinney and Its business partnerships. (i.e. McKinney Economic Development Corporation, Community Development Corporation, Chamber of Commerce, McKinney National Airport, McKinney Convention and Visitors Bureau, and the Historic Downtown District)
  • Continue to improve the City of McKinney’s reputation in the business community
  • Strategic planning for future growth by infrastructure improvements and preserving and planning for remaining commercial corridors
  • Improve the ratio of commercial tax base to residential tax base through job growth without increasing the city tax rates
  • Preserve and protect the city’s nationally recognized quality of life

McKinney is a great place to live and work.  I have been blessed by being here, and I fully subscribe to the sentiment that we should learn, earn, and return. In serving as your next Mayor, I plan to continue the work that I have been involved in during my time as a council representative. I welcome you to join me in Building a Better Community.  I thank you in advance for your support and your vote in this election on May 6, 2017.

Pogue lives in McKinney with his wife Emily and their children Meredith, Samantha and Lincoln.

The Stonebridge United Methodist Church Men’s group will host their third annual “Cruizin’ For A Cause” car, truck and cycle show on Saturday, May 7 from 8 a.m. to noon.  This year’s beneficiary will be Family Promise of Collin County.

"Family Promise is truly a program of the community we live in.  Its existence, strength and success lie within the support of local faith congregations, their volunteers and community volunteers," said Sheila Miller, Director of Family Promise, “there is power in volunteers walking along side a family struggling with homelessness; sharing a meal and conversation allowing moments of normalcy; and providing a safe refuge where the families and their children can truly rest.  Every volunteer and donor who donates a gas card, cooks a meal, provides for immediate needs, or shares their lives with our guest families also share in that family's success as they move back toward self sustainable independence."

“The Stonebridge UMC Men’s group, along with around 50 volunteers from the congregation hosts the event.  A core team of volunteers began meeting 6 months prior to the event to begin planning,” said Todd Adkins, Stonebridge UMC car show coordinator.  “We have been blessed to have so many of our sponsors return for this year. This speaks to their willingness to generously give of their time and resources to support a great cause and it also speaks well of the team of volunteers that run the event each year.  The fact that we can help a family go from homeless to sustained independence through the funds raised at events like this inspires our team to make this show the best yet.”

100% of the funds raised will go directly to support Family Promise. Stonebridge United Methodist Church is one of 12 host congregations in Collin County that support Family Promise throughout the year and they are extremely excited to continue their support through the car show event.

Admission and registration are free and the show is open to all years, makes and models of cars, trucks and cycles. Registration will take place the morning of the show and the first 100 to register their vehicles will receive a commemorative dash plaque.  Awards for show participants and door prizes will be given throughout the show.

The event is free, but donations will be accepted. Be sure to come to the show hungry, as there will have on-site concessions available.

The North Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church is going back to their early Methodist roots by engaging with people where they live and work.  As in its beginnings, United Methodists in North Texas are tutoring, mentoring, and helping children improve their reading skills.  Stonebridge United Methodist Church is one of the churches involved in this movement.

The Conference pledged that each of its 300 churches in the 21 counties would engage with public schools throughout North Texas, with members of its congregations committing to spend one hour a week actively building one to one relationships. Stonebridge UMC currently has 50 of its members, including Pastor John McLarty, visiting the campus of Malvern and working with the students at least once a week.

“Our One + One program with the students at Malvern is an amazing opportunity for our church.  Once you experience those amazing kids, your own life is changed.  Their excitement is uplifting, their smiles infectious, and their love for their teachers unmatched.  They are shining examples of what God can accomplish through our church,” said Stonebridge UMC member Dan Casey. “I have been blessed beyond anything I could have imagined.  I am truly smitten with these children, “ he added.

“It has been nice to watch the One+One classroom partners program develop.  Stonebridge UMC volunteers have become valuable members of our Malvern family, supporting classrooms in a wide variety of ways.  You are truly a blessing to our staff and students,” said Rhonda Gilliam, Malvern Elementary principal.

In addition to the One+One program, Stonebridge UMC also provides food for Malvern families over the summer, school supplies, coats, and coordinates the Angel Tree gift-giving program at Christmas.
