MRT’s beloved annual production of A Christmas Carol, is set to enchant audiences this holiday season.  Each season more people are discovering this timeless story by Charles Dickens in a way that only MRT can tell with families coming back year after year and making it a part of their holiday season traditions. In this show, the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge is taught the true meaning and spirit of Christmas by ghosts who show him his own past and present. He is also shown what the future holds for him if he doesn't change his ways. 

This year will mark MRT’s 18thproduction of local McKinney, playwright, Dr. Andrew Harris’ adaptation of “A Christmas Carol”.  Every year, the MRT production features an array of local talent and young actors from the community, all volunteering their time and talent to work together to bring Charles Dickens' unforgettable tale of Ebenezer Scrooge to life. Under the direction of Marilyn Latham, with Jennifer Lee as Assistant Director, this timeless classic promises to deliver the magic, heart, and message of redemption that has made it a must-see holiday tradition here in McKinney.

McKinney Repertory Theatre (MRT) is a volunteer, nonprofit, community theatre committed to building community through live theatre and fostering a love for the arts.  MRT is a resident company at McKinney Performing Arts Center in historic, downtown McKinney.

McKinney Repertory Theatre (MRT) will begin their 24-25 season with a two-weekend run of Ken Ludwig's The Game's Afoot, an uproarious "Sherlock Holmes" whodunit. The play runs from October 4-5 & 11-12, 2024 at the McKinney Performing Arts Center.  

Breathtaking mystery and high hilarity in equal parts, this play tells the story of Broadway star William Gillette, who has invited his fellow cast members to his Connecticut castle for a weekend of revelry. But when one of the guests is stabbed to death, the festivities in this isolated house of tricks and mirrors quickly turn dangerous. Then it’s up to Gillette himself, who just happens to think he’s Sherlock Holmes, to track down the killer before the next victim appears. 

 An interesting feature of the story is that Gillette collaborated with Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and portrayed his beloved Sherlock Holmes during his real-life career. Through all of his work as an actor and playwright, he amassed a fortune, and his actual home today is featured in a Connecticut state park that has become a popular visitor’s attraction.

The Game’s Afoot was written by Ken Ludwig and the play was the winner of the 2012 Edgar® Award for Best Play from The Mystery Writers of America. The MRT production is being produced by Kelly Baxter and is being directed by Tatum Love, who is “very excited to bring this amazing cast full of talented and hilarious performers to the stage in this funny and compelling story filled with intriguing characters.”

The two-hour, two-act show with a 15-minute intermission will serve up both danger and laughter in a glittery who-dun-it. You’ll be left guessing right up to the end.

Ken Ludwig has had six shows on Broadway, seven in London's West End, and many of his works have become a standard part of the American repertoire. His 32 plays and musicals have been performed in over 30 countries in more than 20 languages and are produced throughout the United States every night of the year.  “Ken Ludwig's The Game's Afoot” is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Samuel French, Inc.

Thanks to a generous gift from a patron, MRT (McKinney Repertory Theatre) is piloting a new program aimed at thanking teachers for their hard work over the past school year. MRT’s Tickets for Teachers program will give all teachers in the surrounding area a FREE ticket to see their upcoming production of Catch Me If You Can on May 3-4 and 10-11 at McKinney Performing Arts Center.   

Catch Me If You Can is a classic whodunnit (the original murder mystery play, not the 2002 Frank Abagnale, Jr. movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio & Tom Hanks) overflowing with mirth and excitement from beginning to end.  An advertising man who has brought his bride to the boss' mountain lodge for a honeymoon calls in the local police to investigate her sudden disappearance. When a priest and another woman show up and insist, over his protests, that she is the missing wife, he begins to question everyone's motives. Filled with plot twists and turns, this show will keep audience members on the edge of their seats trying to guess what will happen next. 

MRT’s production of Catch Me If You Can is being directed by Kent Phillips and produced by Michele Crabtree.  Dale G. Gutt plays newlywed Daniel Corban with Amy Lacey playing his missing wife, Elizabeth Corban.  Inspector Levine is being played by Kim White, with Paul Miles as Father Kelleher, and Ken Schwartz as Sydney.   Kelley Phillips as Mrs. Parker and Lloyd Webb as Everett Parker round out the cast.
